Sóller sightseeing: how to plan the tram, train and town stops

Sóller's sights hang off a pair of transport lines. The 1912 wooden train from Palma arrives in town, and a heritage tram carries on to Port de Sóller, so the timetable decides how the day fits together. Get the return leg right before you set out.

In the old centre, Can Prunera on Carrer de sa Lluna packs a modernist villa and a modern art collection into an hour or two. Its Sunday and Monday opening hours are short, which catches people out.

Outside the centre, the Jardí Botànic groups Balearic and Mediterranean plants by origin and use rather than for looks, for those wanting to put names to Mallorca's flora. Entry is paid, adults €8 and Balearic residents €6, and it shuts on Sundays, public holidays and through December.

Ferrocarril de Sóller: Train, Tram and Tickets from Palma

A 1912 wooden train crossing the Serra de Tramuntana from Palma to Sóller, with a separate tram on to the Port. Fares and timetables for both legs are published; the mistake is assuming one ticket covers the lot.

  • The wooden Sóller tram, which links Sóller with Port de Sóller, Mallorca.

Tranvía de Sóller: Tram to Port de Sóller Fares and Times

An hourly heritage tram that links Sóller town with Port de Sóller, paid for on board. Riders most often slip up by ignoring the timetable: miss a departure and you lose an hour, so plan the return leg first.

  • The garden-side doors of Can Prunera, Sóller.

Can Prunera, Sóller: Modernist House and Art Museum

Booking the train, the tram and Can Prunera

Booking is recommended for the Ferrocarril de Sóller and for Can Prunera. On the railway, remember that fares and timetables cover the Palma–Sóller train and the separate tram to the Port; assuming one ticket covers both legs is the usual mistake. A Palma–Sóller single is 23€ and a return 30€, with the tram 10€ each way, paid on board. The tram runs hourly, so work out your return departure before you board.

At Can Prunera, book ahead and time your visit around the shorter Sunday and Monday hours; children under 12 go free. The Jardí Botànic needs no booking, but it closes on Sundays, public holidays and all of December, so check the seasonal timetable before making the walk out along the Palma – Port de Sóller road, and allow an hour to two.
